Shoe Trends 2027: From Jewelled Heels to the Brogue Takeover

Shoes are where trends become real. A runway dress might never leave the catwalk, but the shoes from a big show often reach stores almost unchanged and end up on pavements around the world within months. That makes the Spring/Summer 2027 footwear especially worth studying, and the message from New York, Milan and Paris was clear: minimalism is out, decoration is in, and flats are getting a smart, academic makeover. Here are the shoe trends for 2027 that will define the year, from statement heels to everyday flats.

The big shift: from bare to bejewelled

For several years, the coolest shoe was the plainest one: a barely-there sandal, a simple ballet flat, a clean trainer. Spring 2027 reversed that. Across the shows, heels came with crystals, floral appliqués, gemstones and chains, and flats became structured and polished. In Paris especially, decorated shoes were one of the clearest signs that fashion has moved from minimalism to maximalism. It’s the footwear version of the broader shift we described in Gloss & Glamour.

1. Bejewelled heels

The headline trend. Prada, Chanel, Carven and Dries Van Noten all showed shoes heavy with embellishment or appliqué, and Tory Burch added beaded pumps. In Paris, Saint Laurent’s stilettos came with brooches and gold chains, while Dior, Dries Van Noten and Loewe showed embellished sandals, crystal-covered platforms and jangling, charm-like details. A jewelled shoe turns the simplest outfit into an occasion, which is exactly why it will be everywhere.

How to wear it: keep the clothes simple. Jewelled heels look best with straight jeans, a black trouser or a plain slip dress, where they can be the focal point.

2. The square toe returns

Just as the fashion world declared the square toe finished, it came back sharper than ever. Instead of soft, rounded shapes, Michael Kors, Altuzarra, Calvin Klein and Chanel showed pumps with crisp, architectural square toes. The look is polished and slightly retro, and it pairs especially well with the season’s skirts and tailoring.

3. Bows, still

Bows have been one of fashion’s favourite details for a few seasons, and they show no sign of going away. Miu Miu, Dior, Prada and Chanel all tied bows onto footwear for 2027, from pearl-covered sandals at Dior to sleek snakeskin pumps at Miu Miu. Expect bows on everything from flats to heels.

4. Two-tone cap toes

One of the most elegant details of the season is the contrasting toe cap: a pump, slingback or flat in one colour with a toe in another, usually black. It is a classic Chanel signature, and for 2027 Celine, Valentino and Max Mara were in agreement. It’s the easiest way to make a simple shoe look expensive and considered.

5. Brogues, derbies and oxfords

The most important shift in flat shoes for 2027 is the move from ballet flats to menswear-inspired lace-ups. Altuzarra, Celine, Ralph Lauren, Bottega Veneta and Erdem all showed polished, structured flats with an academic, slightly preppy feel. It fits perfectly with the season’s return of preppy dressing and its renewed love of tailoring.

How to wear it: try polished brogues with a knee-length skirt and socks, or with cropped wide trousers. The contrast of a masculine shoe and a feminine skirt is one of the most modern looks of 2027. If you have been living in ballet flats, this is your next pair.

6. Exotic finishes

Texture was everywhere: crocodile, snakeskin, lizard and ostrich effects defined many of the season’s most desirable shoes. Tory Burch, Ferragamo, Gucci and Dries Van Noten leaned into the luxe, tactile look. Embossed and printed leathers make the trend accessible and avoid the ethical and cost issues of real exotic skins.

7. Gold and silver

Metallic shoes are the finishing touch of 2027. Saint Laurent, Chanel and Chloé sent out iridescent gold and silver pairs that work for day as well as night. Given how central gold was to the season, from Saint Laurent’s all-gold show to metallics at Ralph Lauren and Dries Van Noten, a metallic shoe is one of the smartest buys you can make.

8. Woven shoes

Craft is one of the defining themes of 2027, and footwear is no exception. Bottega Veneta, Calvin Klein and Tory Burch showed woven leather shoes with a tactile, artisanal feel. They look as good up close as from a distance, and woven mules and loafers are perfect for hot weather.

Is the trainer over?

Not entirely, but its dominance is fading. Speaking at the Munich Fabric Start trade fair, members of a trend agency declared that street style and sneakers were finished and that everything is becoming elegant. That may be an exaggeration, as trainers remain a practical everyday staple, but the direction is clear. The runways favoured heels, polished lace-ups and dressier flats, and the casual trainer looked far less central than it did a few years ago.

The shoes worth buying for 2027

  • A polished brogue or derby: the everyday flat of the year.
  • A two-tone slingback: elegant, versatile and seasonless.
  • A jewelled or metallic heel: your evening and wedding shoe for years.
  • A square-toe pump: sharpens every skirt and suit.

Almost every Spring 2027 runway skirt look came with a heel, which is a big reason heels are back in focus. Read our guide to the Spring 2027 skirt trend to see how they work together. And for the bags to wear with them, see our guide to the season’s accessories.

For Indian occasions

Several 2027 shoe trends are perfect for weddings and festive dressing. Jewelled heels and embellished juttis already share the same language, metallic gold works with almost every lehenga and saree, and a square-toe or bow-detail heel is a fresh alternative to stilettos. For comfort through long ceremonies, choose a block heel with embellishment rather than a very high stiletto.

What shoes are in style for 2027?

Jewelled heels, square-toe pumps, bows, two-tone cap toes, polished brogues and derbies, exotic-effect leathers, metallics and woven shoes.

Are ballet flats out in 2027?

They are no longer the most fashionable flat. Menswear-inspired brogues, derbies and oxfords are taking their place on the runways.

Are square-toe shoes back?

Yes. Sharp, architectural square toes appeared at Michael Kors, Altuzarra, Calvin Klein and Chanel for Spring 2027.

Are trainers still in style?

They remain an everyday staple, but the runways have moved towards dressier shoes, and elegance is the bigger story for 2027.
