Menswear tends to change quietly, through a new trouser shape here and a different colour there. For 2027, though, the shifts are bigger than usual. The Spring/Summer 2027 men’s shows in Milan and Paris in June swapped restraint for colour and personality, and forecasters looking further ahead to Fall/Winter 2027-28 see looser shapes, a focus on nature and a gradual softening of traditional masculine codes. Here are the menswear trends for 2027 that matter, and how to wear them without looking like you are trying too hard.
The mood: personality over uniform
For much of the last decade, men’s fashion was ruled by two uniforms: streetwear on one side and “quiet luxury” neutrals on the other. For 2027, both are loosening their grip. Trend forecaster Julian Daynov describes a menswear that is less about who a man should be and more about who a person wants to be, and the runways showed exactly that: colour, play and craft returning to the classic wardrobe. The pieces are familiar. The way they are worn is not.
1. Colourful prep
The biggest menswear trend of Spring 2027 is preppy dressing in bright colour. Polo shirts came in sorbet shades, blazers were lighter, and sweaters were tied over the shoulders. Thom Browne put vivid colour and whimsical details into his signature tailoring, while Ralph Lauren celebrated collegiate dressing and the gentleman athlete across Purple Label and Polo Ralph Lauren, with relaxed shapes, jewel tones and layered heritage fabrics. In Paris, Dries Van Noten showed luxe polos and Acne Studios argyle knits.
How to wear it: start with one coloured piece, such as a pink or lemon polo, under a navy blazer. Pink, lavender, lemon yellow and shades of blue are now treated as menswear basics rather than accents. A striped knit over tailored shorts, or a pastel suit with loafers, is the full 2027 version.
2. Softer, rebalanced tailoring
After years of exaggerated proportions, from huge shoulders to very wide trousers, designers are looking for balance. Forecasters see pleated trousers returning, often with a slight fullness, and jackets that are relaxed without being oversized. Edwin van den Hoek identifies an “unconventional” direction inspired by 18th and 19th-century portraits: slimmer ties tied more softly, trousers with a little puff, and lace flowers and embroidery on sharp tailored shirts. Expect tailoring that looks easy rather than stiff.
3. The return of the tie, and its cousins
Neckwear is back in focus. Alongside the softer, slimmer tie, the Spring 2027 shows were full of tie and bow-tie variations at Sacai, Egonlab, Soshiotsuki and Dior, where a neckerchief was embroidered onto shirts as a trompe-l’oeil. It’s a small detail that instantly makes an outfit look considered, and it has crossed over into womenswear too.
4. Double denim, done properly
Head-to-toe denim continued for Spring 2027, at Prada, Sacai, Saul Nash and others, in washes from light vintage blues to deep indigo. Forecasters also highlight matching denim suits worn with the shirt tucked in, a cleaner, more grown-up take than the casual double-denim of the past. The key is to treat a denim jacket and jeans like a suit: matching or closely related washes, and good shoes.
5. Showing a little skin
Menswear is getting more relaxed about the body. Several Spring 2027 collections, including Garcias, Paul Smith and Dries Van Noten, showed shirts open to the middle of the chest or lower, and Lemaire sent out open-toe shoes. Shorts were cut longer and wider. For summer 2027, an open collar and bare ankles are part of the polished look rather than a holiday exception.
6. Big but light: the new outerwear
Looking ahead to Fall/Winter 2027-28, Van den Hoek predicts jackets, trousers and down pieces that look bigger and more voluminous but weigh very little. Technical materials, including fabrics fused together with heat to create padded shapes without traditional stitching, make it possible to look substantial while staying light and waterproof. Jonathan Anderson’s exaggerated technical outerwear at Dior Men has already pointed in this direction.
7. Escape to nature
As a response to a fast, digital world, forecasters see a growing appetite for quiet, the outdoors and travel to remote places. In menswear, that means functional clothing, technical fabrics and an earthy palette of browns, greens and neutrals, with soft, hairy textures such as teddy and faux fur adding warmth. Natural dyes made from tea, coffee, corn and tree bark are being explored for their subtle colour variations. One playful twist: fur used as a printed image on nylon or silk-like fabrics rather than as a material, as seen at Mordecai.
8. Layering, especially at the neck
Layering is one of the biggest styling ideas of 2027 across menswear and womenswear. For men, Van den Hoek sees it concentrated around the collar: a turtleneck, then a shirt, then a waistcoat, then a jacket, all visible at once. Leather is also being used in more refined ways, as a shirt, a collar or a patch pocket on an otherwise classic piece.
9. Blurring the lines
Designers are increasingly using shapes and materials once seen as feminine: skirts, very wide shorts that look almost like skirts, aprons, and flowing or sheer fabrics. Van den Hoek notes that Asian labels from Japan, China, Korea and Taiwan are leading here, with Comme des Garçons Homme Plus a key reference. He does not expect most men to start wearing skirts, but he does see the boundaries widening. Pink, too, is becoming far less of a taboo in menswear.
The menswear colours of 2027
For spring and summer, colour is the story: pink, lavender, lemon yellow and blues, often clashed together, with WGSN’s colour of the year, Luminous Blue, a strong option for tailoring and knitwear. Cognac and chestnut browns, from naturally dyed leather with a faded vintage effect, are essential across the year. For Fall/Winter 2027-28, forecasters expect a calmer base of greys, sand, beige, brown and cognac, plus deep reds and greens, broken up by one bold contrast colour such as a near-fluorescent green, bright blue or acid yellow.
Menswear in India: how the trends translate
Many 2027 menswear ideas fit naturally into Indian dressing. Colourful prep works in linen kurtas and bandhgalas in pastel shades; softer tailoring suits Nehru jackets and relaxed trousers; and the craft revival is good news for embroidered sherwanis and hand-woven fabrics. For weddings, a jewel-toned or Luminous Blue bandhgala with cognac shoes is a confident 2027 alternative to ivory and gold.
The pieces to buy for 2027
- A coloured polo or knit: pink, lemon or lavender.
- Pleated trousers: relaxed, with a little fullness.
- A matching denim jacket and jeans: worn like a suit.
- A slim tie or silk neckerchief: the easiest update to any shirt.
- Polished brogues or loafers in cognac: the shoe of the year as trainers lose ground.
