Apart from the first look, which was beautiful though a little ill-fitted, this Louis Vuitton collection didn’t land for me. I’ve long admired Nicolas Ghesquière’s work at the house, but this one felt uneven. The concept was thoughtfu, exploring the intimacy of dressing for yourself — yet much of it seemed more decorative than needed.
The setting, inside Anne of Austria’s restored summer apartments in the Louvre, was undeniably gorgeous. Soft light, frescoed ceilings, and antique furniture framed a world of quiet luxury. Ghesquière called the collection “a journey around my apartment,” an idea that played out through robe-like coats, pajama-inspired separates, and slipper shoes fit for a palace floor. It was about comfort and self-expression, not spectacle.
There were moments of charm: a gray piped robe that opened the show, sheer slips with structured corsetry, and glittering fringe pieces that shimmered like Impressionist paintings. You could see the craftsmanship in every detail, from brushed silk that looked like fur to delicate beadwork that gave depth to otherwise soft silhouettes. But even with all that skill, much of it didn’t feel compelling.
It was a technically well done collection, but one that lacked spark. The setting and execution were impeccable, the idea of home and introspection timely.
