Alaïa’s Spring 2026 collection by Pieter Mulier was beautiful, thoughtful, and technically sharp, though not always the most wearable. A few pieces felt more editorial than practical, leaving me a bit torn. But overall, it was a strong, intelligent outing that showed Mulier’s deep respect for the house’s history and his own sculptural eye for design.
Set inside a minimalist cube with glowing digital floors, the show had an almost cinematic calm. Models appeared reflected from the mirrored ceiling, walking over luminous images of themselves. It was hypnotic, but it didn’t overpower the clothes. Mulier described the collection as “reduced, sculptural, and precise,” and that sense of control was visible in every stitch.
Cotton, leather, python, and silk formed the foundation. The silhouettes were taut and architectural, sometimes pulled tightly around the body, sometimes sliced open to reveal it. There was a literal tension in how fabric wrapped and suspended, creating clothes that seemed to move on their own.
The craftsmanship was remarkable. Fringes swung like liquid, macramé pearls shimmered with handmade precision, and those open-backed tunics and sculptural coats had an elegance that didn’t need to shout. Mulier’s Alaïa is not about reinvention, but evolution. It’s about targeting new emotion.
