Demna’s Cruise 2027 collection for Gucci felt like the clearest indication yet of where he wants to take the house. While the oversized tailoring, exaggerated fur, dark leather and severe silhouettes carried traces of his early Balenciaga work, the collection still remained firmly rooted in Gucci’s own language of glamour and luxury. There was a strong New York influence throughout, not in an obvious way, but through the styling itself: oversized coats thrown over striped shirts, bouquets carried like everyday objects, giant bags and an overall sense of rich urban exhaustion. The makeup added heavily to that mood, making every look feel polished, nocturnal and slightly detached. Paris Hilton’s brunette appearance and Tom Brady’s leather look reinforced the collection’s celebrity-driven appeal, while the overall direction felt noticeably more confident, commercial and emotionally defined than his previous Gucci outing.
