Balenciaga deserves this kind of beauty. After so many eras, each so distinct and influential, it feels like the brand has found a rhythm that works again. Pierpaolo Piccioli’s debut at Balenciaga was one of those moments that just felt right. You could sense it from the first look: that sculpted black gown with opera gloves and those bug-eyed sunglasses. It was dramatic, but never loud — soft yet strong, classic yet current. And, I loved it. There’s something about a designer who can respect both Demna and Cristóbal Balenciaga while still making the clothes feel wearable and real.

The collection, titled The Heartbeat, was exactly that. A pulse running through Balenciaga’s past and present. Piccioli pulled from every era of the house: Cristóbal’s architectural silhouettes, Ghesquière’s futuristic tailoring, and even small nods to Demna’s streetwise energy. You could spot the references in the cocoon coats, leather jackets, and those bubble shapes that moved beautifully down the runway. One brown leather jacket especially had my heart — the kind of piece that i would wear all my years ahead.

After Valentino, it was hard to imagine Piccioli anywhere else, but somehow he did it. Unlike the irony-driven Balenciaga of the past decade, Piccioli’s version felt calm and romantic. He leaned into color, couture craftsmanship, and emotional elegance. Yet, it wasn’t all nostalgia, there was a freshness, a new kind of power dressing that felt modern and approachable.

A strong debut, and a reminder that fashion can still feel human.
