“I’m tired of minimalism,” Miuccia Prada said before her show. “I asked myself, ‘How can I do minimal Baroque?’” The answer was this collection.

It is only Mrs. Prada who could start a show with the thought of little black dresses ending up with blinding colors, bold stripes, and bananas. The collection started with an array of looks in neon shades of orange, green and blue; colors that appeared throughout complementing some neons. Filled with all kinds of stripes; The pieces were a statement piece one needs to have. A strapless dress with a mash-up print of baroque and stripes was all sorts of iconic. And of course the banana pieces, An unmistakable highlight, and a probable reference to Josephine Baker’s Banana Skirt. Fur stoles were constant in solids and stripes. Big funky sombreros, finger stripes, pencil skirts, and 60s futuristic sunglasses were just some of the statements in this collection. The very retro yet practical bags were practical and just the right amount of ugly.

The fun and playful appeal of the clothes was balanced even enhanced by the slightly structured silhouettes; ‘exaggerated simplicity’ as Mrs. Prada called it. Clothes you could wear every day but also could run away in.

Miuccia Prada and her mind is something beyond comprehension but I do love it when she goes wild. A little bit of the 20s, tropics on acid, and some sort of hidden nostalgia came together and gave us funky Prada.
