Zimmermann brings joy. This season, Nicky Zimmermann looked back to the 1920s and the stories of bold Australian women. Among them were writer Miles Franklin and adventurers Kathleen Howell and Jean Robertson, who famously drove across Australia. Zimmermann also referenced her grandmother, who worked as a beach lifeguard at a time when women were rarely allowed in such roles. These women were independent, curious, and strong, and that idea quietly shaped the collection.
The opening look set the tone. A dress constructed from silk scarves printed with vintage illustrations felt romantic and slightly adventurous. From there, the collection moved through lingerie inspired gowns layered with lace, cozy knitwear in autumn shades, and flared silhouettes paired with block heel loafers.
There were also subtle references to sportswear, including cricket inspired pieces with striped cotton skirts and knit jumpers. Tailoring appeared too, like a cropped champagne tuxedo jacket paired with lace detailed trousers that balanced softness with structure.
Zimmermann’s clothes are often described as pretty, but this lineup showed there is more going on underneath. The femininity here is not fragile or overly delicate. It feels confident and full of movement. The dresses especially carried that spirit. They had a dreamy, ultra boho feel, but they also looked powerful and alive when the models walked.
Zimmermann understands how to make clothes that celebrate femininity without making it feel small. These were girly clothes, yes, but they were strong, confident, and meant for women who are constantly in motion.
