This Ulla Johnson collection felt like a shift, and not entirely in the way you might expect. After last season’s warmth and clarity, this outing came across more scattered. It did not immediately feel like the Ulla Johnson many have grown used to, especially that signature sense of sunshine and ease. Still, there was something undeniably youthful and appealing about it.

Johnson described the collection as a reflection on strength and softness, and that contrast showed up everywhere. Structured tailoring appeared alongside delicate slips, sheer fabrics met chunky knits, and eveningwear details like lace, metallics, and feathers were styled with more casual, undone elements. There was also a wide range of references, from dressed-up denim to bohemian dresses and 70s-inspired suits. This mix reinforced the experimental spirit of the collection, though it also made the overall vision feel less cohesive than her strongest outings.

Color remained central to Johnson’s language. Emerald, cherry red, fuchsia, oxblood, and cerulean blue brought moments of vibrancy, even if the emotional warmth behind them felt more distant this time. The combinations were interesting, sometimes unexpected, and paired with rich textures like fil coupé, metallic florals, soft knits, and feather embellishments. The craftsmanship was especially striking up close. You could see the care in the construction, the intentional imperfections, and the thoughtful fabric choices.

What stood out most was how desirable so many individual pieces were. A fringed knit dress, a metallic floral number, or a perfectly cut pair of trousers. The collection may not have delivered a fully unified story, but it showed a designer willing to experiment and evolve. And even in transition, Ulla Johnson knows how to make clothes people genuinely want to wear.
