Veronica Leoni’s collection for Calvin Klein Collection felt like an attempt to reconnect with the brand’s foundation, but the result landed somewhere between. You could see her intention clearly. She looked back to the late 1970s and early 1980s, when Calvin Klein built its identity on sharp minimalism, sensual restraint, and a quiet confidence rooted in the body. That focus translated into long, lean tailoring, sleeveless power suits, and precise coats that emphasized structure without excess.
At its best, the collection offered glimpses of the Calvin Klein that still feels relevant today. The minimal suits, clean satin dresses, and leather bombers carried that familiar New York ease. There were moments that echoed the effortless cool of 90s Calvin Klein too, especially in the simpler looks where nothing felt forced. A recreated pair of archival 1976 jeans and subtle logo placements also hinted at a stronger path forward, one grounded in recognizable, wearable pieces.
But the overall direction felt uncertain. There was a mix of ideas competing for attention. Transparent leather trenches, sculptural collars, sheer backs, and occasional bursts of color like clementine orange interrupted the otherwise controlled minimalism. Instead of sharpening the identity, these moments made the collection feel more conservative in spirit yet strangely unfocused in execution.
Minimalism only works when it feels intentional. Here, it sometimes felt like reduction without clarity. The collection wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t convincing either. It existed in a middle space, neither bold nor fully refined. The final look, in particular, broke the mood entirely and felt disconnected from everything that came before it.
Calvin Klein is a brand built on cultural cool, not just clean clothes. This collection showed effort and research, but it still feels like Leoni is searching for the version of Calvin Klein that belongs to now.
