McQueen’s Spring 2026 show felt like a return to its roots. Seán McGirr surprised me this season by going classic, leaning into the house’s signature tension between control and chaos. It was a very McQueen collection in the truest sense, filled with sharp tailoring, sensual cuts, and just the right amount of edge. I didn’t expect it, but I was pleasantly surprised.
Inspired by The Wicker Man, McGirr created a world that was darkly romantic and a little unsettling, yet incredibly refined. Uniforms unraveled into something wilder, with cropped military jackets, low-slung trousers, and corseted tops that hinted at both strength and vulnerability. Each look felt intentional and beautifully crafted, reminding you of McQueen’s legacy of precision and storytelling.
What stood out most was how strong the individual pieces were. From the revived “bumster” trousers to sculpted corset dresses and fluid silk gowns, everything felt wearable yet full of attitude. The textures, from crisp wool to delicate chiffon, added depth to the collection without losing its edge.
There was a clear sense that McGirr is finding his rhythm at McQueen. He balanced instinct and discipline, in a way that felt both new. McGirr reminded us that the best kind of evolution often starts by looking back.
