God bless Matthieu Blazy. Chanel is back.

His debut felt like a rebirth, the kind of moment that reminds you why Chanel matters. After years of refinement and restraint, Blazy brought back imagination, curiosity, and that rare feeling of discovery. Chanel has always been defined so precisely that it can feel frozen in time, but here, it moved again. Finally.

Staged beneath glowing planets at the Grand Palais, the show opened with a cropped tweed pantsuit; it was confident, sharp, and effortlessly current. It set the tone for what followed: a masterful play between masculine and feminine, structure and softness.

What followed was a study in texture and shape, where traditional Chanel codes met a new kind of fluidity. There was movement everywhere, tweeds softened into sheer layers, classic bouclé was reworked into airy, almost feather-light jackets, and pleated silk dresses floated with every step. A series of sharp houndstooth suits carried that perfect masculine-feminine balance, while organza shirts and bias-cut skirts brought an easy sensuality. The craftsmanship was meticulous, but the clothes felt lived-in, never precious.

Blazy played beautifully with contrasts: crisp tailoring paired with crushed leather bags; transparent knits styled under heavy coats; pearls and camellias scattered like afterthoughts rather than decoration. The low-slung trousers and boxy jackets gave it that effortless French cool, while evening looks, particularly the draped jersey gowns with subtle shimmer

What made this debut so special wasn’t shock value or spectacle but sincerity. Blazy didn’t just design a collection; he rebuilt Chanel’s spirit. He honored Gabrielle’s love of freedom, Karl’s flair for fantasy, and turned them into something deeply his own.

Blazy didn’t erase the past; he refreshed it. His Chanel woman isn’t dressing for nostalgia for controversy; she’s dressing for life. He is a star and if Chanel is smart, they’ll hold on to him. Because this wasn’t just a great debut. It was the start of a new universe.
