Diotima’s Spring 2026 show was one of the finest moments of New York Fashion Week. Even if the clothes aren’t necessarily everyone’s personal style, there was no denying their power, personality, and presence. Rachel Scott has always had a strong point of view, and here she channeled the history and spirit of Caribbean carnival into a collection that was both celebratory and deeply intentional.

The show opened with crochet pieces layered in ways that felt both modern and rooted in tradition, setting the tone for a procession that was less about costume and more about reimagined character. Scott drew from figures like the Baby Doll, the sailor, and Dame Lorraine, but instead of literal references, she translated them into garments, sailor collars trimmed with chenille, feather-like rayon skirts, and jackets inspired by cage bras. The result was clothing that felt alive with movement and meaning.

The color palette clashed in the best way: guava pinks, lime greens, magentas, and stormy grays that brought vibrancy and friction to the runway. And while the collection had exuberance at its core, it also carried weight. Carnival, for Scott, isn’t just about joy, it’s also about resistance, rebellion, and community.

What stood out most was how much personality each look carried. It reminded me of Jonathan Anderson’s work at Loewe in the way clothes became characters of their own. Scott delivered a collection that was both poetic and playful, cementing Diotima as one of NYFW’s must-watch names.
