Christian Siriano brought Old Hollywood into Macy’s this season, and the result was as dramatic as the setting itself. The basement of Herald Square was transformed into a cream-draped salon, the perfect stage for Coco Rocha to open the show in stripes, polka dots, and a brimmed hat. The collection leaned heavily into Marlene Dietrich-inspired glamour, with tuxedo tailoring, corseted gowns, and voluminous skirts. It was big, bold, and at times, a little too much.

That’s the tricky part with Siriano—his designs demand confidence. Not everyone can pull off a Siriano moment, and in this lineup, some looks dangled right on the edge of elegant and gaudy. A tuxedo blazer with a spandex catsuit, for instance, felt like it cheapened the mood. Still, when he leaned into simplicity, the results were undeniable. The strapless black gowns and cream evening coats were timeless, the kind of pieces that flatter almost anyone and deliver the quiet confidence Siriano sometimes overlooks.

What did feel fresh were the bursts of color at the finale—neon orange, teal, lilac—like Technicolor suddenly appearing on screen. They didn’t all land, but after so much monochrome, the shift was energizing. Siriano’s vision was clear, even if not every execution matched it. For me, the sleek suits and clean gowns were the highlights, proof that sometimes less really is more.
