Veronica Leoni’s sophomore outing for Calvin Klein was interesting, even if a little predictable, and maybe that is exactly what we needed. The collection leaned into strong simplicity without falling into flat minimalism, and the textures gave it a tactile, almost irresistible quality.
Staged at the Brant Foundation in the East Village, the show explored what Leoni called “Calvin Klein-ism as a way of being rather than just appearing.” That philosophy translated into clean lines, sensual essentials, and subtle nods to the brand’s legacy. There were backless apron dresses, sweeping trench coats, pencil skirt suits reimagined with lingerie peeking through, and a caramel fringe dress that felt both classic and fresh. The tonal palette of grays, whites, and blues carried a calming presence, with the surprise of a glossy pink suit offering just the right jolt.
Leoni also played with contrasts: sportier notes with logo waistbands and sunglasses, cheeky pom-poms on suiting, and luxe leather pieces that felt more experimental. Some ideas landed more convincingly than others, but there was delight in the references, from Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy slips to Phoebe Philo–era Céline.
What stood out most was the balance—an appealing mix of familiar Calvin Klein signatures with Leoni’s own hand. It might not have been a reinvention, but it was a thoughtful continuation that felt grounded, tactile, and quietly confident. Sometimes, fashion is less about what we want and more about what we need, and this collection understood that.
