After a decade at the house,Demna delivered one last statement, one last spectacle, and one last reminder of how he’s rewritten the codes of fashion with guts, wit, and unmistakable style.
Staged in the historic salons of 10 Avenue George V, the show felt like a closing chapter and a love letter all at once. On the soundtrack: the names of Demna’s team, spoken aloud like a roll call of gratitude. On the runway: a mix of celebrity faces, longtime muses, and house regulars—from Kim Kardashian channeling Elizabeth Taylor (in Taylor’s actual diamonds) to Isabelle Huppert swinging a lady bag with comedic flair.
But beneath the star power and drama was a striking calmness. The collection was sculptural and stripped back, with gowns that stood stiff without boning and suits that fit like second skins or in the case of his husband’s, comically oversized skins. It was couture, yes, but filtered through classic Demna eye: sharp shoulders, twisted satins, and silhouettes that blurred elegance with edge.
A 1967 houndstooth skirt suit was recreated with care, modeled by Danielle Slavik—Balenciaga’s original house model and the person who helped Demna shake off his imposter syndrome. That moment felt less like fashion and more like healing. The clothes were sculptural and dramatic, but never cold. They had soul.
The men’s looks, another Demna invention in the house’s couture history, were peak him: exaggerated, experimental, and grounded in his personal wardrobe. The final images weren’t taken in a grand salon but on the streets of Paris—next to hardware stores, by the Seine, and in front of Balenciaga’s original house.
As farewells go, this one didn’t scream—it resonated. A decade of risk, reinvention, and radical couture tied up with quiet power. His parting words, like the final notes of Sade’s “No Ordinary Love,” summed it all up: this was never ordinary. This was Demna’s decade. And what a ride it’s been.
