Haider Ackermann Brings the Heat! Ackermann’s debut for Tom Ford was all about making a statement – and the suits did just that.
Set in a sultry, mirrored space in Paris, the ambiance was pure Tom Ford—low lighting, plush seating, and an air of intrigue. Ackermann, known for his deft touch with tailoring and his mastery of colour, didn’t disappoint. He stayed away from literal references to Ford’s eponymous line or his iconic work at Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent. Instead, he captured the essence of Ford’s world—sexy, confident, and unapologetically glamorous—while adding his own softer, more introspective spin.
The show opened with a parade of sleek leather pieces in stark black and white, with pops of lipstick red and acid yellow. Leather T-shirts, moto jackets, and fluid bias-cut skirts created a tension between structure and fluidity. The standout? A cropped, fitted sweatshirt paired with a barely-there skirt, cinched at the waist with a skinny belt—quintessentially Ford, yet unmistakably Ackermann.
As the collection progressed, evening wear took centre stage. Ackermann’s signature peaked shoulders and liquid draping made appearances in gorgeous colours—think ice blue, butter yellow, and soft lavender. He balanced masculine tailoring with soft, sensual silhouettes, showcasing plunge-front jumpsuits, satin coats, and ultra-high-slit gowns that whispered of desire without shouting for attention.
Ackermann’s approach to Ford’s iconic glamour was more about suggestion than overt seduction. He toyed with contrasts—hard and soft, masculine and feminine—while leaving room for the wearer’s imagination. His final looks, shimmering in grey with a texture that mimicked scales, paid homage to Ford’s love for exotic skins without being too literal.
It is clear that Ackermann had nailed it. He honoured Tom Ford’s legacy while adding his own smooth, sensual touch.
