The reimagined Valentino collection takes a playful, youthful turn, with its Lolita-inspired dolly bird aesthetic. Featuring short skirts, dropped waists, and baby-doll silhouettes, the collection is undeniably fun, embracing bold shapes and preppy energy. The pieces exude “pretty couture” energy, with every look showcasing a whimsical, statement-making element. However, while the clothes are beautiful, they feel perhaps too youthful for a couture line. It’s an interesting departure from Valentino’s usual lines, but the collection falls short in delivering the wow factor. Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli’s focus on ultrashort, sometimes high-waisted baby-doll shapes is smart, but the collection leans heavily on dropped waistlines and bows, making it feel a bit bland. The collection feels almost infantilizing, but not to a fault.
