La Dame Bleue, wasn’t just a runway show—it was a heartfelt homage to Isabella Blow, his mentor, muse, and the fashion world’s fearless nurturer. Together with Philip Treacy, who designed extraordinary headpieces for the collection, McQueen created a vibrant celebration of Blow’s indomitable spirit.
Savile Row tailoring formed the foundation, with sharply cut jackets in Prince of Wales checks and strong, exaggerated shoulders that radiated power. Wide belts cinched waists, emphasizing dramatic hourglass silhouettes that hinted at Blow’s penchant for bold statements. Dresses with molded hips and sleek black skirt suits in exotic reptile skins added a layer of sleek modernity to the lineup.
But McQueen’s romantic side shone through as well. Gowns in floating silk chiffon and organza swept the runway, embellished with ombré bird-of-paradise prints and delicate pleating that moved like wings in flight. These lighter pieces contrasted beautifully with the grounded strength of structured tailoring, showcasing McQueen’s duality as a designer.
Avian and butterfly motifs carried symbolic weight, appearing not only in prints but in the movement and shape of the garments themselves. Trapezoidal coats and kimono-inspired dresses nodded to McQueen’s past collections.
Blow’s influence was palpable in every piece. These were clothes she would have worn—bold, unapologetic, and brimming with personality. The balance of structured power and ethereal lightness felt like a dialogue between strength and vulnerability. Isabella would have stolen every piece.
