This collection is a nostalgic yet subversive nod to the 1950s and 60s, blending the world of Alfred Hitchcock films with rock ‘n’ roll flair. The collection channels an era marked by biker molls and sweater girls, with Tippi Hedren and Marilyn Monroe-inspired pieces that mix high drama with elegant restraint. McQueen’s mastery of tailoring is on full display, with sharp, narrow coats and sleek pencil skirts that hug the female form in a way that feels both classic and fresh.
The collection pulls from a wide range of inspirations, from the elegance of Hollywood ball gowns to the raw edge of leather jackets and jeans. While there’s undeniable glamour in the sculpted evening gowns, including a striking homage to Monroe’s “Happy Birthday” dress, the collection takes a darker turn with its psychological undercurrents. The subtle nods to Hitchcock’s thrillers, like the Vertigo-inspired invitation, add an intriguing layer of mystery to the show.
Despite the glamour, McQueen balances his usual theatricality with a more straightforward approach. The muted color palette and restrained designs echo the “Hitchcock blonde” archetype—feminine, yet reserved. Accessories like pearl jewelry, leather gloves, and vintage-inspired sunglasses complete the look. In a rare move for McQueen, the runway show itself was relatively simple.
