The Valentino couture collection by Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli was a mixed bag of ideas that felt disjointed. Inspired by a cyber Garden of Eden and films like Avatar, the collection aimed to blend modernity with ethereal chiffon, but the result lacked cohesion. Unlike their earlier structured or lace-focused shows, this lineup struggled to establish a clear identity, borrowing from trends without respecting or owning them.
While some draped chiffon dresses and intricately patched jackets showcased Valentino’s craftsmanship, these highlights were few and far between. Neon green accents on three standout looks added a bold touch but felt forced, overshadowing the collection’s narrative.
Ultimately, the collection seemed lost between Valentino’s heritage and the need to appeal to younger clients. Though some pieces worked individually, the overall offering felt scattered. Even after almost a decade, this collection remains one of Valentino’s weaker moments, leaving a lingering question: What was it trying to achieve?
