Rick Owens has always embraced the unusual, and his latest collection is no exception. For fall, Owens took us on a journey that balanced ceremonial symbolism with his signature eccentricity. The show opened with dramatic headdresses made from sweatshirt sleeves wired into geometric crowns, evoking both curiosity and conversation. Owens explained backstage that these “improvised ceremonies” reflect the essence of civilization: people gathering to share ideas and pursue common goals.
The clothing itself was a striking mix of textures and silhouettes. Long, lean skirts with flaps and oversized outerwear dominated the runway. Patchwork coats blended thick wool, quilted puffers, painted canvas, and leather, creating layers that blurred the lines between garments. Some pieces were mesmerizing, like a regal cape crafted from earthy-toned fabrics, while others—such as a bulbous red nylon wrap with bunny-ear-like sleeves—leaned into the delightfully weird. One standout aspect of this collection was its monochromatic palette, primarily consisting of blacks and grays, which created a moody yet sophisticated atmosphere. The use of textures, such as plush fabrics and flowing materials, added depth to the pieces
Owens aimed for flamboyance and warmth, softening his usual edge with cozy tones and fluffy textures. Yet, the harder undercurrent of “armor” remained, a nod to fashion as both protection and expression.
