This collection was nothing short of an adventure—a playful voyage from nautical nostalgia to vibrant Japan. True to his whimsical spirit, the show was a blend of sharp tailoring, imaginative forms, and theatrical charm.
The collection set sail with fresh takes on Gaultier’s iconic marinière, reimagined as airy blouses, striped bustiers, and sharp-shouldered blazers—dubbed “shark shoulders.” These structured silhouettes anchored a journey that dove underwater before resurfacing in Japan. Pin-striped trompe l’oeil jeans and fringed cages paid homage to his signature style, while experiments like pleated belts and obi-inspired designs brought unexpected twists.
Dita Von Teese graced the runway in a seductive plumetis gown, while dramatic pieces, like a jellyfish-like turquoise organza dress, hinted at the seas’ mysteries. The finale? A wedding dress crafted from what appeared to be paper parasols—perfectly theatrical.
Gaultier’s show wasn’t just fashion; it was storytelling, proving once again his mastery of blending couture with pure entertainment. A true seafarer’s dream!
