This collection had the energy of a super-chic, slightly kooky aunt—bold, unapologetic, and always a little ahead (or behind) the curve in the most fabulous way.
The collection featured some truly stunning pieces. Long, flared skirts with dramatic patchwork and off-the-shoulder tops evoked a fortune-teller’s whimsy, while tailored dhotis and luxe snakeskin trench coats brought a touch of modern edge. The explosion of saffron, fuchsia, and chartreuse hues was undeniably uplifting, reflecting Gaultier’s ability to channel global influences with finesse.
That said, some of the styling felt rooted in an earlier era. While undeniably fun, there was a dated element to the fringing, corsetry, and flamboyant layering. Yet, in typical Gaultier fashion, this didn’t detract from the collection’s charm—it added to its kooky, rebellious spirit.
However, this was a distinctly Westernized take on India, leaning into the romanticized, gypsy-like tropes often seen in global fashion. While the clothes were great, it lacked the depth and nuance of true cultural exploration. That said, Gaultier’s show has never been about strict authenticity—it’s about bending the rules and this collection succeeded in doing just that.
