Rick Owens returned to the Palais de Tokyo for his Spring/Summer 2025 show, a dramatic spectacle titled “Hollywood.” This marked a shift from the intimacy of his previous season, embracing inclusivity with a cast of 200 models – a mix of students, Owens devotees, and even circus performers. This decision not only brought diversity to the cast but also infused the show with an inclusive spirit, echoing his own journey from the fringes of society to the forefront of fashion.
The collection itself paid homage to the flamboyant spirit of pre-Code Hollywood. Think art deco glamor with a touch of sin and redemption. Flowing white capes contrasted with Owens’ signature dark palette, featuring oversized silhouettes, biker jackets, and his iconic boots.
Sustainability was also a focus. Owens used narrow-loomed Japanese denim with an eco-friendly wash process, vegetable-tanned leather, and GOTS-certified organic silk.
Central to the collection were Owens’ signature elements: dramatic wide-shouldered garments, flowing capes, and the iconic Kiss Boots. The pieces were characterized by a striking color palette of whites, silvers, and blacks, creating a cohesive visual language that echoed the elegance of Hollywood’s golden era. Fabrics were thoughtfully chosen, showcasing Owens’ dedication to sustainability. The collection featured narrow-loomed Japanese denim treated in eco-friendly processes, along with vegetable-tanned cowhide jackets and silk gazar gowns that exuded luxury while prioritizing environmental responsibility.
Notable looks included airy chiffon capes paired with structured bomber jackets, juxtaposing softness with boldness. The long fishtail skirts, reminiscent of 1930s Hollywood glamour, were both dramatic and wearable, while cut-off denim trousers appeared dipped in a mysterious sheen, reflecting Owens’ penchant for the unconventional.
Owens’ message was clear: unity in the face of intolerance. The diverse cast, marching in unison, emphasized this theme, as did the finale featuring a giant flag with two interlocking arms.
