This Max Mara collection, under Ian Griffiths’ direction, explores the intriguing intersection of fashion, mathematics, and science. Drawing inspiration from the 4th-century mathematician Hypatia of Alexandria, Griffiths marries the elegance of classical design with the rigor of geometry, evoking Hypatia’s intellectual legacy through sculpted silhouettes and precise tailoring. His fascination with the parallels between scientific order and design manifests in innovative elements like sharp, narrow shoulders and the prominent use of darts, which accentuate the structure and flow of garments.

The collection, while grounded in Max Mara’s signature minimalism, stands out for its sophisticated use of geometry. From parabolic ribs framing circular cut-outs to the angular darted construction, Griffiths brings the precision of mathematical concepts into fashion. The color palette—muted tones of brown, camel, black, white, and blue—maintains a quiet elegance, allowing the emphasis to remain on the design’s technical elements. While the collection may initially appear minimalist, the underlying complexity of the designs is evident upon closer inspection.
