Nicolas Ghesquière’s latest collection for Louis Vuitton is a masterclass in blending the old with the new. The designer, celebrating his 10th anniversary at the house, has taken us on a time-traveling journey to the Renaissance, but with a contemporary twist.

Drawing inspiration from the Renaissance and the artist Laurent Grasso, Ghesquière reimagines traditional silhouettes with a futuristic twist. Puffy sleeves, peplums, and tailored jackets evoke the grandeur of Louis XIV, while the use of biker shorts and leather sandals firmly grounds the collection in the present. This balance between structure and fluidity creates a dynamic wardrobe that resists easy categorization.

Ghesquière’s focus on “soft power” is evident in the juxtaposition of bold, architectural forms with light, airy fabrics. Jackets, typically structured, take on a blouse-like fluidity, and coats become robes, allowing for graceful movement. The use of transparent fabrics and iridescent embellishments adds an ethereal quality, while accessories such as chunky necklaces and ornate sandals inject a sense of opulence.

The collection is not without its playful elements. Ghesquière challenges the boundaries of fashion with asymmetrical designs, such as a dress with one pant leg, and experimental textures that range from metallic finishes to sheer lace.

One of the standout features of the collection is the use of color. Ghesquière has opted for a vibrant palette that includes shades of pink, blue, and yellow. This adds a sense of energy and optimism to the collection.

The accessories are equally impressive. The handbags, in particular, are beautifully crafted and feature a variety of styles. Ghesquière has also introduced a new “generational” bag that is both practical and ultra cool.
