Drawing inspiration from the gritty world of motocross and science fiction, Watanabe transformed everyday objects into stunning pieces of wearable art; with a focus on upcycling. Watanabe took everyday materials like reflective silver foil, rubber motorcycle tires, and soundproofing foam, and transformed them into bold, wearable art.
The silhouettes were dramatic, with broad shoulders and cinched waists flowing into voluminous shapes. Balloon sleeves, geometric capelets, and clusters of backpacks gave the outfits a cool, sculptural feel, blending utility with a sense of elegance. Collaborations with brands like Innerraum and motorcycle companies added a tough, industrial vibe, seamlessly fitting into the overall futuristic theme. Despite the unusual materials, Watanabe’s designs felt surprisingly feminine and chic. From sleek skin-tight pants to dramatic, voluminous skirts, and coat-gown hybrids, the collection balanced bold shapes with refined details. It was a mix of past and future, grounded in both tradition and innovation.
Watanabe’s use of color and texture was equally impressive. The collection was dominated by a neutral palette of blacks, whites, and silvers, but the materials themselves added a sense of depth and complexity. The interplay of light and shadow on the reflective surfaces created a mesmerizing effect, while the tactile nature of the fabrics added a sense of warmth and intimacy to the designs.
