This season, Jil Sander marked a significant departure from their previous aesthetic, embracing a darker, more introspective vision. In response to the pressing challenges of contemporary life, the Meiers shifted from the swaddled shapes and feminine gestures of last season to silhouettes that reflect an almost survivalist ethos. Drawing inspiration from Canadian photographer Greg Girard, whose works capture the stark beauty of urban desolation, the collection featured prints of 20th-century cars and motel rooms, seamlessly integrated into boxy shirts and pencil skirts. This connection to Girard’s neon-lit imagery was evident in the palette, which included iridescent suits and a striking glossy red trench.

The collection’s tailored silhouettes—reminiscent of both the 1940s and ’80s—successfully balanced a vintage feel with contemporary elements. Despite the overarching somber tone, the Meiers incorporated softer, handcrafted touches, such as dip-dyed sets and floral embroidery, highlighting their nuanced approach. Accessories played a crucial role, with bold earrings and innovative footwear complementing the looks. The use of neon hues, exaggerated proportions, and unexpected details, such as fringing and embroidery, added an edge to the pieces.

The collection oscillated between melancholy and resilience, encapsulated in pieces like the “Lonely Hearts” necklace. This juxtaposition suggests a yearning for connection amid isolation, echoing the broader emotional landscape of today’s society.
