Central to this Diesel collection was denim, their signature fabric, which was reimagined through various techniques. The show, set on a floor covered in nearly 15,000 kilograms of denim scraps, highlighted Diesel’s commitment to circularity and repurposing waste materials.
Creative director Glenn Martens’ exploration of distressed aesthetics and trompe l’œil techniques resulted in a collection that was both visually arresting and thought-provoking.
While denim was the central focus, Martens’ innovative approach extended beyond the fabric itself. The collection featured a variety of techniques, including double loom jacquards, devoré effects, and intricate fringe detailing. These elements added depth and texture to the garments, elevating the distressed aesthetic to new heights.
The collection featured a wide array of designs, from micro shorts with long fringes to leather jackets treated to resemble denim. Technical details, such as embossed denim and devoré techniques, added depth to the pieces, showcasing Martens’ skill in blending craftsmanship with sustainability. Trompe l’œil effects were prevalent, with garments deceptively mimicking other materials, further pushing the creative boundaries of denim.
Accessories also played a significant role, with the introduction of the Play-Double-D bag and trompe l’œil boots. Diesel’s signature distressed aesthetic extended to eyewear and footwear, emphasizing the brand’s rebellious spirit. Overall, the collection was not just a fashion statement but a reflection of Diesel’s commitment to sustainability, challenging the industry to rethink waste and materials. Martens proved, once again, that Diesel isn’t just a fashion brand; it’s a movement that’s rethinking how we use materials while staying effortlessly cool.
