Titled Uncertain Future, this Comme des Garçons collection is a captivating exploration of fragility and resilience through fashion. The collection opens with dramatic, rigid white pieces that seem more like sculptures than clothing. The starkness of these forms, with their Doric ridges, gives them a monumental presence, as if they’re protecting something beneath. But as the show progresses, these rigid structures soften into quilted silks and oversized sleeves, blending history with futuristic design.

The show opened with a series of rigid white looks that resembled sculptural toiles. These imposing structures, reminiscent of fiberglass, set the tone for a collection that was both bold and thought-provoking. As the show progressed, the rigidity softened into quilted silk jacquards and oversized sleeves, creating a captivating blend of historical and futuristic elements.

Beyond the striking silhouettes, the collection also explored themes of protection and entrapment. Puffy gowns, oversized sleeves, and metal mesh structures evoked a sense of both safety and confinement. Glimpses of protest slogans added a political edge to the designs, suggesting a deeper commentary on the uncertain times we live in.

What’s striking is how Kawakubo seamlessly fuses fashion with political and social undertones, glimpses of protest slogans hidden within the garments giving them an added layer of meaning.
