This collection for Dior was a blend of athleticism and femininity, taking inspiration from ancient warrior women like Diana the Huntress and bringing them into the modern world. At the heart of the show was performance artist and archer Sagg Napoli, embodying strength and grace as she shot arrows alongside the models, creating a captivating backdrop for the collection. The athletic references in the collection were clear, with bodysuits, mesh track pants, and knee-high gladiator boots taking center stage, paired with traditional ready-to-wear pieces like blazers and jackets. The designer fused couture with sporty elements, embracing the idea that strength and femininity can coexist. Off-shoulder dresses, monochromatic sportswear, and jackets crisscrossed with parachute straps evoked agility. The collection also nodded to Dior’s history, with references to Christian Dior’s 1951 Amazone look and Marc Bohan’s 1960s sportswear designs.
The collection overall was a mishmash of athleisure and couture, but the result was neither cohesive nor particularly flattering. Chiuri’s fascination with blending sport and fashion has been a recurring theme, but this season’s execution felt tired, repetitive, and lacking in creativity. For a brand that’s supposed to represent conventional timeless glamour, this collection just didn’t hit the mark.
