This Balmain collection is a striking display of Olivier Rousteing’s signature bold, architectural approach to fashion. The collection leans heavily into the house’s defining elements—those fiercely structured shoulders and angular silhouettes—but with fresh updates that keep it exciting. The craftsmanship shines through in every piece, with the precision cuts and sculptural tailoring showcasing the skill of Balmain’s artisans. Particularly impressive are the intricate hand-embroidered designs, where thousands of pearlescent beads create portraits of faces on jackets, dresses, and shorts.
Rousteing also played with textures and shapes, giving us everything from multi-toned dresses inspired by makeup palettes to a clever trouser-boot combo that keeps the silhouette perfectly straight. There’s a great balance of strong tailoring and glamorous eveningwear, with cropped jackets, skirts, and exaggerated hips that make a statement without going over the top. You had these edgy, structured silhouettes with a hint of nostalgia, like the marinière stripes that are so quintessentially French. And the final looks—draped silk dresses in neutral tones—were simply stunning.
The powerful shoulders, glittering embellishments, and sleek silhouettes are all unmistakably Balmain, but there’s an edge that makes this collection feel fresh.
Rousteing stayed true to the brand’s DNA while pushing boundaries, making it exciting yet relatable. Balmain fans (new and old) are going to love this!
