Alexander McQueen’s collection, designed by Seán McGirr, brought a mesmerizing fusion of heritage and modernity to Paris Fashion Week. Held at the prestigious École des Beaux-Arts, the show evoked McQueen’s gothic roots with a contemporary twist. McGirr’s vision, inspired by the banshee from Irish folklore, resonated throughout the collection, weaving together dark, foreboding elements with lighter, more ethereal touches.

The collection was a harmonious blend of darkness and light, with the runway transformed into a smoky, ethereal setting. The collection featured twisted tailoring and sharp silhouettes, reminiscent of traditional British suiting, but with a subversive edge. Highlights included translucent silk chiffon and hand-stitched cobweb lace, creating an illusion of garments unraveling, yet meticulously controlled. The palette of ivory, jet black, and crepuscular hues like blazing yellow and orange added an energetic contrast to the darker tones. The clothing, a mix of sharp tailoring and ethereal fabrics, was the true star of the show. One standout feature was the use of ruffles and fringe, which added a touch of drama and femininity to the collection. The accessories, including mismatched earrings and platform shoes

McGirr skillfully balanced McQueen’s iconic gothic flair with more romantic, wearable pieces. His exploration of the S-bend silhouette, combined with constricted tailoring and flowing fabrics, was a nod to McQueen’s legacy while showing McGirr’s confidence in evolving the brand.

The standout moment was the final look—a crystal-encrusted gown worn barefoot, symbolizing McGirr’s grand vision for the brand’s future. Accessories, including mismatched earrings and chain details, added layers of intrigue, enhancing the collection’s bold aesthetic.

In his second collection, McGirr has shown a deeper understanding of McQueen’s essence. By embracing the brand’s history and infusing it with his own cultural narrative, he delivered a powerful, cohesive collection.
