Chet Lo’s “Mai’s Blossoms,” is a heartfelt homage to his mother, Mai-Wah Cheung, reflecting her impressive career journey from a pioneer in computer science to a schoolteacher and painter. The collection, presented at London Fashion Week, draws inspiration from her corporate past while celebrating her recent artistic pursuits. Lo reinterpreted her professional wardrobe with a modern twist, incorporating soft draping and fluidity alongside his signature spiked knits. The color palette—dominated by blues, blacks, and greys—mirrored the tones of typical office wear but introduced delicate textures and translucent fabrics for a softer, more mature look. The designer’s experimentation with fabrics and textures is evident, with the use of sheer organza, pleated fabrics, and intricate knitwork.
Lo’s exploration of duality is evident in the contrasts between structured office silhouettes and delicate fabrics, highlighting the balance of power and vulnerability. The finale featured pieces adorned with fruit-shaped glass beads, referencing Cheung’s current passion for painting, and symbolizing her transition from the corporate to creativity. Through this tribute to his mother, Lo showcased not only his personal growth but also the emotional depth and strength behind his designs.
