Daniel Lee’s fourth collection for Burberry, unveiled at London’s National Theatre, marked a significant shift in the brand’s approach. Moving away from whimsical elements, such as the duck hats seen in previous collections, this show was grounded in Burberry’s rich heritage with a focus on wearability and function. Lee emphasized practicality by reinterpreting the iconic trench coat, the cornerstone of Burberry’s identity, through various silhouettes and fabrics.
While classic silhouettes like the trench coat were prominently featured, Lee incorporated contemporary touches such as cropped jackets, cargo pants, and low-rise trousers. The collection’s color palette, featuring earthy tones alongside playful shades of lavender and soft grays, echoed the British outdoors. Military-inspired details on outerwear and pants, as well as the use of lightweight fabrics like washed silk and linen, showcased a blend of practicality and understated elegance. Lee’s collaboration with British artist Gary Hume added a contemporary edge to the show, with green cut-out installations complementing the streamlined setting of the National Theatre.
The collection balanced newness with tradition, appealing to both legacy Burberry fans and new generations eager for recognizable yet fresh pieces.
