Priya Ahluwalia’s collection, titled Home Sweet Home, delves deeply into the concept of home, both as a physical and emotional space. Drawing from her British, Indian, and Nigerian heritage, Ahluwalia skillfully blends traditional and modern influences. Through vibrant patterns, textures, and silhouettes, Ahluwalia pays homage to her grandmother’s journey from India to England. The collection’s nostalgic elements, such as doilies, beaded curtains, and suburban wallpaper, evoke a sense of warmth and familiarity.
Prints, a defining feature of the collection, ranged from dynamic swirls on knit dresses to geometric patterns on iridescent tops and trousers. Texture played a significant role, with wooden beads, crystals, and jewels embellishing garments, while macramé doilies were repurposed into striking one-shoulder tops. The sari was also reimagined into modern, strappy gowns.
Ahluwalia’s thoughtful approach to design extends beyond fashion, as she weaves personal and cultural narratives into each piece. Green leaf patterns took inspiration from her grandparents’ home, while wooden beads referenced the door dividers found in Nigerian households.
Ultimately, Home Sweet Home reflects Ahluwalia’s ability to blend her multicultural background with a modern sensibility, creating a collection that speaks to the emotional pull of home, heritage, and community.
