Lagerfeld designed a minimalist garden setting featuring a three-story wooden house for the latest collection. Departing from his extravagant past setups, this show embraced a ‘minimalist’ approach, with models showcasing natural-looking designs amidst timber walkways and reflective ponds.

Nature’s bounty adorned the runway, not on the fabric, but in meticulously crafted ornaments fashioned from wood shavings, paper, and straw. The collection itself embraced elongated silhouettes; adorned with high-end metals, flowers, beads, and pearls. Notably, stylish iPhone pockets hung loosely from the models’ waists. Eco-friendly materials like wood shavings, paper, and straw were transformed into exquisite shapes and paillettes for jewellery and embroideries.

Beige dominated the palette, with a recurring bee motif and unique shell-like sleeves creating striking silhouettes. Cork wedges and slim belt pouches replaced traditional accessories. The Chanel bride wore a strapless dress with geometric lace and a hooded jacket with a train.

The outfits are gorgeous but the concept is very gimmicky. Now going through this collection in 2023 it feels even more absurd. These sorts of unnecessary greenwashing-driven concepts add nothing but fluff and meaningless ideas to the industry.

While the concept was undeniably captivating, a nagging question lingered: is this greenwashing or genuine innovation? Lagerfeld was never practical but this is a big miss.
