John Galliano, citing Flemish painters and Monsieur Dior as influences, crafted a collection blended historical and Galliano-esque elements, with the most captivating pieces offering simpler, fresher designs that could sustain Dior’s clients’ dreams. Galliano fused Vermeer’s soft blues and golds with Dior’s fifties shapes, creating romantic yet extravagant pieces. Huge ruffled skirts with asymmetrical hems and bounce and drama to the clothes. Galliano crafted fantastical narratives, transforming models into otherworldly beings, prioritizing artistic statement over practical wearability. The runway itself became a canvas for imagination to blossom.
