John Galliano drew inspiration from his aerial tour of Egypt, resulting in a gilded couture fantasy referencing Egyptian history and culture. The show featured metallic peplum jackets, sphinx-like silhouettes, fitted suits, Nefertiti-like crowns and scarab-shaped jewelry, ultimately captivating contemporary Cleopatras. The show culminated in glamorous evening dresses, evolving into voluminous tulle skirts reminiscent of Christian Dior’s New Look. The runway showcased an iconic lineup of models, including Erin O’Connor, Raquel Zimmermann, Caroline Trentini, Alek Wek, Yfke Sturm and Karolína Kurková. Galliano’s fusion of historical and modern elements, alongside theatricality, showcased his unique couture vision, blurring the lines between fashion and costume design. This isn’t fashion; it’s pure couture, a distinct form of artistic expression that draws inspiration from various cultures, as exemplified by Dior’s Egyptian-inspired collection, transforming the runway into a living canvas of art. Every time I watch this show, it feels like a religious experience. This is Glorious!
