With the Eiffel Tower as its backdrop, Anthony Vaccarello pays homage to Paloma Picasso, infusing masculine tailoring with audacious femininity. Elongated silhouettes, deep colors, skin-tight silhouettes, strong-shouldered blazers, skimpy catsuits and unbearably high heels shaped this collection. Among 62 looks, there was only one that connected with me – the opening white structured full-length drees featuring sharp shoulders and immaculate tailoring.

This actually might be my least favorite collection by Vaccarello for YSL; there seems a sense of disconnect and almost a lack of understanding of functional clothes. Yes Yves Saint Laurent himself was a pioneer of the ultra-glam deeply seductive clothes, but maybe we should update that a bit. We can make sultry clothes that feel empowering to women; maybe something like Laquan Smith, Nensi Dojaka or Supriya Lele. While Vaccarello usually is a brilliant designer; this one was a miss. And to be fair; he did put out a couple of amazing collections after this one.
