First, let’s take a moment and acknowledge that this is not a Couture collection, but a Prefall one. When I got into fashion, I honestly could not have cared more for Oliver Rousteing. Now, that just feels dumb.

The collection featured sculptural garments with military influences and crystal embellishments. These pieces are built with immaculate construction and craftsmanship. The collection also features some heavy logo-splattered looks; they look pretty decent. In the end, that’s what is going to sell. Despite his 12-year tenure at Balmain, Rousteing’s youthful nature allows him to continually reinvent his designs and avoid creative stagnation. His expansive prefall collection was a thoughtful dialogue between his history with the brand and that of Pierre Balmain, the founder.

As I scrolled through the collection, witnessing the energy and innovation, it became clear that Rousteing’s first decade at Balmain may just be the beginning of an extraordinary career that rivals the longevity of Pierre Balmain himself. Now I’m a Balmain girlie, and it’s all because of Rousteing.
