This connection was a pretty one, but not you are usual pink sugary glittery pretty. The designer has the talent to take elements from everyday ordinary and turn them into avant-garde creations. The clothes in this collection were inspired by 18th century and punk – an unlikely blend that results in some dramatic artistic pieces. The colors here were romantic contrasting with the unique material/textures choices- rubber, upholstery, jacquards, and bondage straps. Just silhouettes were bold, utilitarian and very regal featuring corsets, pannier skirts, guarded necklines and breastplates.
The pieces in this collection were impossible to ignore, so fascinating that they forced you to stare at them. This collection is no exception to Kawakubo’s remarkable oeuvre. It showcases her signature style, featuring bold, abstract shapes and unexpected medleys of materials. It is no wonder that this has been lauded as one of her best collections to date.
