Pieter Mulier paid respect to the late Azzedine Alaïa while simultaneously unleashing his style in the collection. He undoubtedly remained true to the brand’s essence, yet didn’t let it confine him. Mulier has upped the ante by pouring his heart and soul into creating breathtaking garments that reflect his impeccable taste and attention to detail. He seamlessly blends Maison’s poetic legacy with his creative flair, resulting in an unspoken tribute to aesthetics. This serves as the perfect introduction to a new era, catering to younger generations unfamiliar with Azzedine’s legendary status.
This collection features extreme proportions, avant-garde cuts, and impeccable tailoring techniques. We were blessed with new proportions and voluminous structures that defy all norms. The color game was restrained and sophisticated – white, black, and nude reign supreme. The clothes boasts boxy yet tailored coats, cinched silhouettes, and flowy bottoms that will leave you in awe. Maxi, fluffy, voluminous pant legs are reminiscent of Spanish-inspired skirts. Exaggerated necklines, hoods, and coat lapels set the stage for more experimental and technical pieces, teasing at the brand’s new direction. The outwear plays with oversized lines borrowed from menswear while maintaining a bold feminine silhouette.
Mulier collaborated with the Picasso Administration to produce stunning knitted and embroidered dresses that draw inspiration from the legendary artist’s ceramics collection dating back to the mid-1900s. With this collection, Alaïa masterfully captures the essence of Picasso’s creative process and infuses it with their signature style to create.
A personal favorite was a white cotton shirt maxi dress – so crisp, tailored to perfection. The feminine mystique reigns supreme as the nucleus of creation and the heart of this cutting-edge craftsmanship. With its bold and multifaceted allure, this collection was met with acclaim and adoration. Go Mulier! Go Alaïa!
