Donatella Versace transformed the runway into a utopian wonderland, the runway was sand covered with Roman pillars ruins transporting us straight into the pages of Greek mythology with aquatic-themed ‘Under the Sea’ visuals. The clothes draw inspiration from the wondrous beauty of the ocean, as evidenced by its collection of dresses and gowns that boast Onda hemlines, taking cues from the ebb and flow of the ocean’s waves. The Trésor de la Mer print from Spring 1992, an emblematic design of the fashion house, also makes a statement in the collection with its striking hues. Ruffles that looked like oceanic movements were adorned on countless dresses and hemlines, starfish brooches, tops reminiscent of scuba diving suits, brightly colored stripes and some sleek mermaid-style midi skirts. From crystal-encrusted bra tops to blinged-out embellishments on sharp black blazers, the shells and starfish motifs were used in a myriad of creative ways, adding a touch of glamour to each outfit.
