Olivier Rousteing commemorated his decade-long term at Balmain by presenting a striking magnificent collection ‘Festival’ for Spring 2022. The designs reflect Balmain’s distinct silhouettes, alluring details and vivid hues to highlight the brand’s grandeur. The designer opted to release a selection of his favorite looks as a re-edition – still missed out on a lot of my favs though!
In his tenure, Rousteing has pulled off the ultimate balancing act – blending the iconic heritage while simultaneously introducing a steady stream of fresh concepts that have given him constant commercial hits. These garments are a true testament to the house’s revered savoir-faire, boasting elegant silhouettes, precise tailoring and jaw-dropping artisanship courtesy of the Balmain atelier. Most looks were paired with bold, larger-than-life gold accessories – adding to the drama and opulence.
Amidst a sea of cultural homogeneity in the upper echelons of fashion, he stands out as one of the few Black visionaries at the helm of a legacy brand, fighting to promote diversity across the industry. “Over the next ten years, I pledge to continue to push for more inclusion, more democracy and more openness. Here’s to the next decade of sharing our joy-filled signature mix of fashion and music with more and more of those who wish to enter into the Balmain universe.” Rousteing told designscene.
Under Olivier Rousteing’s creative leadership, Balmain has entered a new era that champions beauty, strength, femininity, empowerment and craftsmanship – all with a contemporary and diverse touch. That finale brought tears to my eyes. I love everything about this. The energy here is simply unbeatable!
