This collection was Blumarine’s Return to the limelight and a first for the designer Nicola Brognano who took over the reins of the house. With this show, we were introduced to a reimagined and lively take on Blumarine. This collection was the beginning of the social media hype and obsession that came along with the brand and it’s revamped nostalgic aesthetic. The brand has played a major role in the re-emergence of the early 2000 and Y2K trends in the industry. The designer told Vogue “My Blumarine is more dirty, bitchy, sexier,” and I pretty much agree! Clothes featured a solid range in all three – silhouettes textures and colors. When my 14-year-old self planned a glam outfit, any look from the collection would have worked perfectly, and even now. In this collection, we see low-slung trousers, butterfly buckled belts, heavily ruffled minidresses, tie-up sandals, midriff-baring cardigans and some sheer shimmery cocktail dresses. From sparkly belts to fur stoles this collection was quite playful; the vibrant color combinations helped.

I am a major fan of only 2000s trends while I could never pull off low-waist jeans; I do love the nostalgia! As an older GenZ, I feel for both the millennials who just can’t stand this resurrection and GenZ who get a chance to playfully express themselves. In a sea of countless microtrends that take over pop culture and social media, it is endearing how Y2K has been around for a while. And to think that this was one of the moments when it snowballed. Nicola Brognano who’s quite a talented designer with the potential to create something lasting and inventive. Now the challenge for him is how will he navigate the waters once this trend fades because he might have started it but he can’t keep it going forever. Like it or Not can’t deny the fact that it’s super fun!
