500 teddy bears sitting on tiny wooden chairs were lined to perfection as they came to listen to a “Teddy Talk” at this Thom Browne show. Thom Browne knows how to get people curious and he did. The construction was experimental and sensational; each look however simple is a testament to the magic-like craftsmanship of the hand behind Thom Browne’s vision.
The phrase ‘unique silhouettes’ is not enough to do justice to the garments. Epic architectural shapes constructed with ultra-crisp tailoring and cuts. Some highlights were crinoline skirts, chunky knits, trousers upon skirts, rainbow quilted jackets, braided jackets and two-toned blazers. The first half of the lineup was simple and the second half was an animated-abstract interpretation of the same looks. The collection was filled with preppy childlike motifs – Truck shaped handbags, tennis ball sweaters, enormous lobster gloves, knitted sphere-loaded beanies, oversize bows and heels with wooden blocks.
Playful in execution and thoughtful in concept these garments are to die for. A quintessential Thom Browne collection with all the drama, mystique and joy.
