Jeremey Scott was struck with the parallels between the French Revolution and 2020’s world political scenario. While most brands are bust recreating the 80s Scott goes back to the 1780s this season. Jeremey Scott has been unapologetically creative and fun; this collection is a testament to his brilliant delightful humor. Subversion was blended well with theatre here.
The famous Marie Antoinette pannier silhouettes were given a major modern twist; they were mini panniers. Antoinette minidresses had many iterations including some classic Rococo, embroidered denim, biker chic, blue oriental prints and anime prints (or Scott liked to call it ‘Anime Antoinette’). There was more of this Tokyo twist too; primarily seen in the kaleidoscopic color palette and the general kitschy surrealism. Most looks were paired with lace-up thigh-high boots, amping up the sexy in the 1700s fits. The hairdos reached the sky with colors ranging from neutrals to candy-like pastels. The collection closed with some cake dresses; a clear ironic reference to the infamous “Let them eat cake”. After all who wouldn’t want to wear colorful Moschino Marie Antoinette-inspired cake dresses?
