The glory of Karl & Rome: Fendi Couture Fall 2019

Silvia Venturini Fendi dedicated this Fendi collection to Karl Lagerfeld. A man who defined Fendi for us as and made the brand that it is today; he designed for Fendi for a long 54 years. 54 looks were created using hand-picked archive sketches by Lagerfeld. Titled ‘The Dawn of Romanity’ and With models walking against the Colosseum this was a sight to behold.

The Fendi craftsmanship takes the lead here with artful tailoring and exquisite details. Clear references to Roman architecture and design languages specially marble in all its glory. Art deco patterns, reversible fur coats, sheer chiffon gowns, long lux stoles, voluminous sleeves, patchwork fur and dainty palazzo pants were some recurring pieces to note. A strong 70s influence reined the collection; around a decade after Lagerfeld joined the house, possibly an ode to when he truly found his feet. The accessories here were irresistible; embroidered clutches, fur-decorated bags and patterned slings were some highlights along with some timeless heels. The colors here were simple and neutral elevating the artistry.

Historic and innovative clothes continue the Fendi DNA. A fitting ode to Lagerfeld and the city of Rome; both driving forces in the Fendi legacy.
